Matchstick Kits – Everything Matchstick

November 25th, 2009 by admin

The Matchstick

Matchstick Kits is slowly growing I am pleased to say and every day I have new readers and subscribers to the site and over the next few days I will be introducing new parts to the site.

I am actually leaving next week to go to Laos as I am part of the opening and closing ceremony for the Asian Games (I have a laser show display company see www.argon.com.ph) and while I am there I will also be planning some of the new parts to the site.

The Match

The Match

One of the new developments will be a magazine especially dedicated just to matchstick models and similar crafts and this is your opportunity to get involved in this project.

I am looking for ideas, suggestions and content to put in the magazine so:

If you are making a model, send me photos and details and an article about yourself 500 to 700 words (subject to edit) and I will feature you in the magazine.;

If you want to advertise in the magazine;

If you have a matchstick story;

If you know of a special trick or shortcut that you would like to share;

If you know of a story we can feature;

If you have products, books or similar content that our community may like;

If you want me to interview you;

You use matchsticks in a unique or novel way;

Or any thing else you can think of (it should be related to matchsticks in some way) then please email me at tim@matchstickkits.com and I will get back to you with details.

Nothing is too small if it is in the matchstick world so please send me anything you have.

I am planning to launch the 1st copy within one month by free email subscription so please send me as soon as possible.

As far as I know this will be the only magazine available for us matchstick enthusiasts. I cannot find another one anywhere. Let me know if you know of one.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Matchstick Sculpture

Matchstick Sculpture – Matchstick City

Stan Munro has gone from TV presenter to TV presented with this incredible matchstick sculpture of his matchstick city.

Stan Munro used to be a TV presenter and is now being featured on TV around the world himself for his very unique passion and art.

I am sure if you have been in the Matchstick world for any time, you have heard of Stan Munro, even still I thought today I would bring you some of his incredible matchstick sculptures and also a Youtube video that I am sure most of you have not seen yet.

Stan has taken years to build what must be one of the most famous matchstick models with his giant Matchstick City.

toothpicks-sculptures2 He really takes this serious, downloading technical drawings and satellite images so that he can get the end result as close to the real thing and I would say it works . Incredible images indeed.

He actually works on his models at the Museum of Science and Technology in New York and his latest model has over 40 new buildings and has so far been working on it for four years.

Most of the buildings are hollow but have supports inside them and he breaks the larger models up into smaller parts so that they can be moved!

If you can’t travel the world, let Stan Munro bring it to you. Way to go Stan!

Thanks to Believe It Or Not for the original story about the Matchstick City and Stan Munro and his matchstick sculpture.
